The problem

Spreadsheets weren’t built to survive a recall.

When a CFIA inspector or a major retailer asks “where did this lot go?”, you have minutes — not days — to answer. Most food operations are still patching that answer together from receiving binders, recipe Word docs, and three different spreadsheets.

  • Lot history scattered across paper logs and shared drives
  • Allergen risk lives in someone’s head, not in the system
  • Recipes scale by hand — production errors compound
  • Audits become 3-week fire drills, every time

The platform

One system. Every batch. Every audit.

Tray covers every step a food operation actually needs — receiving, lot tracking, recipes, BOMs, kitchen sheets, fulfillment, and reporting — without the bloat of a generic ERP.

Lot-level traceability

Every receipt creates a lot. Every BOM consumes one. Every shipment ties back. Forward and backward trace in seconds, not days.

Learn more

Allergen control

15 allergen types tracked at SKU and lot level. Automatic flags on production lines, kitchen sheets, and labels. No more “we forgot the sesame”.

Learn more

Recipe-driven BOMs

Build a recipe once. Scale to any batch. Auto-generate BOMs, kitchen sheets, and material picks. Inventory deducts itself.

Learn more

Receiving & QC

Trailer temps, BOL, supplier lots, line-item QC status. Catch quality problems at the dock before they become recalls in the field.

Learn more

Audit-ready reports

Stock, aging, lot trace, low stock, full audit log. The reports inspectors actually ask for, exportable in one click.

Barcode-native

Camera-based scanning on the plant floor. Receive, pick, and ship by scan — fewer errors, less typing, faster cycles.

How it works

Three steps. One unbroken chain of custody.

01

Receive

Scan the BOL. Capture trailer temp. Run line-item QC. Tray creates a lot at receipt and stamps it with supplier, dates, location, and condition.

02

Produce

A sales order spawns a BOM. The BOM scales the recipe. The kitchen sheet prints. Operators check off ingredients — and the right lots deduct automatically.

03

Deliver

Finished goods are tied to the source lots, the customer PO, and the audit trail. When anyone — inspector, retailer, or you — needs to trace it, it’s already there.

Specifically built for

From a 5-person artisan kitchen to a 100-line co-manufacturer.

Tray runs operations for spice blenders and seasoning co-manufacturers, hot sauce makers and marinade co-packers, artisan bakers and commercial bake-offs, private-label producers running multiple SKU programs across retailer house brands, meal kit assemblers and fresh-pack manufacturers, cold-press juice and kombucha brewers, artisan cheesemakers and plant-based dairy brands, coffee roasters and tea blenders, chocolate and confectionery makers, granola and snack producers, specialty preserve and fermented food producers, spice importers with in-house repacking, deli and charcuterie operations, and any food & beverage business that lives or dies by lot traceability, allergen control, and recipe-driven production.

Whether you’re a small-batch artisan producer or a multi-line co-manufacturer running private-label programs for major retailers, the workflow is the same: receive against a PO, run QC at the dock, scale the recipe, print the kitchen sheet, ship against the order, and answer any auditor in seconds.

From the floor

FAQ

Questions ops leaders ask first.

How long does implementation actually take?
Most operations are live in 14 days. We pre-load your products, suppliers, customers, and recipes from spreadsheets — then we sit on the floor with your team for the first week to validate every workflow.
Do you replace our QuickBooks / accounting?
No. Tray runs your operations and syncs orders & invoices with QuickBooks. Your accountant stays where they already live; your plant gets the workflows they actually need.
Can warehouse staff use it on the floor?
Yes — designed for it. Camera-based barcode scanning works on any phone or tablet. Role-based access means warehouse operators see receiving and inventory; supervisors see production; owners see reports.
What about custom recipes and proprietary blends?
Recipes are private to your tenant and never used to train models or shared with other customers. Role-based visibility lets you keep formulas restricted to specific users while still printing kitchen sheets.
Is the data exportable if we ever leave?
Always. Every record — products, lots, BOMs, orders, audit trail — is exportable to CSV or full database backup at any time, no charge.
Can Tray handle co-manufacturing and private-label production?
Yes — Tray is built for co-manufacturers and private-label producers running multiple SKU programs across retailer house brands. Recipe segregation, lot-level allergen control, customer-specific production runs, and per-customer reporting are core to the platform, not bolt-ons.
How is pricing structured?
Per-site monthly subscription that scales with users — no per-SKU charges, no module gating. We’ll quote you on the demo call once we understand your footprint.
